COVID-19 Etiquette on Driving lessons and Driving Tests.

By now we all know the general advice from the HSE which is to Wash your hands frequently, practice good respiratory hygiene when coughing and sneezing,Maintain the social distancing and avoid touching your mouth, eyes, nose and mouth.

By now , you would have also followed our procedures in relation to our own covid19 driving lesson procedures and Etiquette which are on our website and also you would have received text notification by way of link as to our procedures before, during and after the driving lesson.

With that in mind and in relation to the Driving Test itself  you would have also received notification from the RSA in relation to the procedures on entering the building and whilst out on the driving test also.

It is of the upmost importance that these procedures are adhered to strictly as non compliance could result in the test being cancelled and Driving lessons not going ahead. You can find out more on COVID-19 at https://www.hse.ie

How early should you arrive for a driving test?

Well, it is important that you arrive just on time, not too early or too late. Remember, other learners, are scheduled to take their driving tests at other times also.

If  the  COVID-19 restrictions are still in place you will need to follow the RSA guidelines before entering the building and follow each step as suggested.

When you get there too early, you will be a distraction to others who are taking their driving test. You definitely do not want to be the reason why others had a bad time in the course of their driving test.

On the other hand, you also should not be late for the driving test center. This is because you are required to be in the test waiting room on time. Also, coming late for your driving test could do you a lot of harm.

Your test examiner will likely take you as someone who is not serious with the test. Hence, he may become intolerant to your mistakes in the course of the test and you may end up having a failed driving test.

To this end, it is suggested that you should be at the test center once the time is ten minutes away from the time which you are scheduled. When you get to the waiting room in time, you will have enough time to settle down and calm your nerves as you go for your driving tests.

Your Driving Test Examiner at Monaghan Driving Test Centre

The driving test waiting room is the meeting point between learners and their driving test examiner. This is the part where learners get nervous. However, can we really blame them? They are about to meet the person who is going to decide their fate and influence their ownership of a driving license.

To this end, it is only normal that they exercise a measure of caution even if they have done lots of practice before then.

Know this; your driving test examiner actually wants the best for you. He/She has nothing to gain from having you fail the test. But then, they will be watching you based on certain criteria that are already laid down. That is why you should never grow tense when you are about to meet your driving instructor.

Instead, warm up to him/her and interact freely. Building a good relationship with him/her right from the first time you meet will boost your confidence and help you give out optimum performance when you take your driving test.

The Main Driving Test at Monaghan Driving Test Centre

Often times, the driving test examiner will not tell you what will actually happen in the course of the test. But then, when you are both set for the test, he will likely get in the passenger side of the vehicle while you take the driver’s side and then tell you to start the vehicle and get moving.

Within the period of the driving test, your examiner will expect you to do the following for the Monaghan Driving Test Centre.

  • Driving on different types of roads: there is a wide variety of roads in Monaghan. They include busy town roads, narrow street roads, dual carriageways, and a few other road types.
  • The period of the driving test is dependent on the proximity of the road types to be covered to each other. In cases where all the necessary road types to be covered are far from each other, it is expected that the driving test session is extended.
  • At least, a maneuver of the instructor’s choice: the driving instructor will request that you do a reverse bay parking, parallel parking, reverse bay parking, pulling up parking or any other maneuver of their choice.
  • The driving instructor will be on the lookout for ideal spots where any of his desired maneuvers can be done.
  • Unexpected stop: the chances of the driving instructor requesting for this is very high. Before now, it used to be a compulsory part of the test. Although it is no longer mandatory, I in 3 learners who have gone through a driving test have been requested to do an emergency stop. Hence, you should always expect this while you do your driving test.
  • Independent driving section:before now, the independent driving section of the driving test was just 10 minutes. However, it has noticed that driving instructors have increased this aspect of the driving test to 20 minutes. It is either the learner is made to follow the traffic signs or they are to make use of satellite navigation while taking the independent drive section of the test.

All the aforementioned drills constitute the major parts of the test. It is up to you to take note of them all and prepare your mind as you make your way to the driving test center on the day of your driving test.
